Abstract

Background and objective: knee osteoarthritis is a common problem in over 50 years old. There are different treatment methods to control osteoarthritis, namely drugs,physiotherapy,acupuncture,homeopathy and massage therapy. Homeopathy is a branch of alternative and complementary medicine which is used for treating many illness. Homeopathy remedies are prepared from planets, salts and elements. Rhustox is a planet based homeopathy drug.Rhustox, also known as poison ivy, is grown in Asia and America.

Methods: Acupuncture was carried out 10 patients suffering from10 osteoarthritis using important acupoints, namely GB.34, GB.33, ST.35, Heding(EX_LE_2) and other points for 10 sessions. More over Rhustox with potency 30, in a topical form was also applied to knee skin of knee, 2 to 3 times a day.

Results: After applying the above mentioned treatment for 10 sessions within a few months, the result showed that combination of acupuncture and homeopathy remedy (Rhustox 30) was more efficient in reducing pain as well as enabling a higher degree of joint movement.

Conclusion: Combination of acupuncture and homeopathy in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis is considerable.
