Dr. John Yang (Canada)

General Description: Five Canadian provinces have their own traditional Chinese medicine (TCM)/Acupuncture legislations. Each regulatory body differs in terms of the scope of TCM practice and training programs. The five provincial TCM regulatory bodies have formed a national organization named the Canadian Alliance of Regulatory Bodies of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists. This organization is responsible for setting up Entry-Level Occupational Competencies for the Practice of TCM/acupuncture in Canada, as well as administrating the Pan-Canadian TCM Examinations. There are two examinations which include the Pan-Canadian Written Examinations and Pan-Canadian Clinical Case-study Examinations. There are three written examinations for three different designations such as TCM practitioner, Acupuncturist and TCM Herbalist. Same as for clinical case-study examinations. All new graduates from TCM programs in the five provinces must pass this national examinations in order to legally practice in Canada. Among these five provinces, In British Columbia candidates can write the licensing exams in English or mandarin Chinese, Quebec in French, and the rest of them can be English.

Canadian TCM educational system falls under provincial jurisdiction.
